Mr Lohan's Guide to Saving Turf in Gleantaun Bog

It has become a tradition in creagh National School that Mr Lohan brings a group of children, usually in second class, to Gleantán bog at this time every year to teach them about how turf is saved and all about the flora and fauna natural to the peat land habitat. This year Mr Lohan has gone 'Virtual' so we can all join in! Many thanks to Mr Lohan for creating these videos to share with us all!

Why don't you see if you can use some history skills like Miss Blade? Maybe you can create some primary sources for historians of the future to use! 
  • Draw a map of the Creagh area today or as it might be in 100 years.
  • Make your own Time Capsule. 
  • Try the Kahoot on your class platform.

Miss Blade is not just a teacher, she is also a historian. When historians are researching history, they use lots of different sources to make sure that the information is complete. ​Every day you will receive a link to the 'chick classroom'. This virtual classroom has a range of interactive activities for you to engage with. Today you can: 
  • Pick a chick art idea and try it out! You have a choice of fork print, cotton wool or fingerprint designs!
  • Listen to some chicken techno!
  • Sing along to the baby chick song.
  • Revise the anatomy of eggs.
  • Read some poultry based texts!

 Today is the day that we get to check in and see our eggs hatch. Click on the incubator to watch this magical  video clip.
​You will see baby chicks emerging from their eggs. it really is a spectacular and special sight!

Every day you will receive a link to the 'chick classroom'. This virtual classroom has a range of interactive activities for you to engage with. Explore the classroom and check out some of these terrific activities:
  • Try the egg drop challenge (Don't forget to ask an adult first!)
  • Listen to 'Poules et Coq' from Carnival of the Animals (Saint-Saens)
  • Read another egg themed book.
  • Find out how to tell a hard boiled egg from a raw one by spinning.
