Food Appeal Update.

Just over a week ago, Creagh N.S. sent out a request for our school community to donate goods towards our traditional Christmas Food Appeal.
The response has been extraordinary.
Thanks to the generosity of your donations, many families and people in need will have a happier Christmas this year. A most sincere to all those who contributed and a special word of thanks to Miss Gallagher who co-ordinated the event for the Ballinasloe Lions Club in the school this year.

Creagh N.S. take part in M.S. Readthon 2021.

Miss Fox's second class and Miss Donohue's first class took part in the M.S. Readathon during November this year.
The children really threw themselves into the task with great enthusiasm and they were supported fantastically by their friends and family. As a result of these immense efforts, these wonderful children have succeeded in raising in excess of 3000 euro for M.S. in Ireland.
Congratulations and well done to the children. Thanks to all those who supported this innitiative led by Majella O'Rourke (Acting Deputy Principal and Primary Language Co-ordinator) and the two class teachers.

Lots of Festive Feeling in the air!

There is a whole host of Christmas and winter themed activity happening in the school over the past few weeks. We all enjoyed our Panto day on Thursday. The Parents Association and Board of Management clubbed together to organise lots of goodies on the day. Miss Blade and 4th class are entertaining us  'elfing' around on the intercom every day and all classes took part in the Santa Dash last week organised by Miss Conway's 5th class. Lots of nativity plays are being recorded and the christmas art is stunning!!
Well done, everyone!

Some Christmas Art from our school to enjoy.

We know that you can't visit our school at the moment so we have put together a few photos to show you how some of the things we have been getting up to!

James from 3rd class designed and made his own Christmas jumper. Well done James!

We celebrated Friendship in Creagh National School in lots of ways. Miss Laura Gallagher and the Student Council led a' Zoomed' Friendship Assembly every morning during the week. It was a great way for us all to connect virtually. We did lots of fun and creative friendship and respect themed activities. It was a great way for us to reflect on our friendships in the school. Many thanks to Miss Gallagher for all her terrific work in putting this week together!

Polytunnel Project:

Picture
Our new polytunnel arrived in Creagh N.S. on September 10th. The installation was a quick process and we had very curious, excited children by 3 o’clock that day. We have set up a gardening committee, made up of staff with a passion for the outdoors……(Caroline Gallagher, Fionnuala Colohan, Laura Gallagher) . Our third class were involved in moving clay and raking to prepare the floor of the tunnel and to make sure the floor was level. They did a fantastic job.
Our caretaker Eddie has come up with some very creative ideas for potting tables, shelving and raised beds. We are keeping him very busy with requests!
We want to create a space where pupils can plant, nurture and learn about the life cycle of plants. We want them to become invested in their surroundings and become custodians of their school environment.

Greenhouse Gardeners:           An Article by Aoife Gode

October 2021
Early on Thursday morning we went outside with our buckets and spades. First teacher told us what to do, we were preparing the floor of the polytunnel. The polytunnel was in the school grounds beside the pitch. We were out there because we wanted to learn more about plants, nature and the environment. Then we filled our buckets with soil, after that we emptied them onto the floor. Meanwhile teacher was going around taking pictures of us, at work. Soon afterwards we levelled the floor with a rake. Next we went inside washed our hands. We enjoyed our lunch and loved doing it because we got into nature more.

Some photos of 3rd class gardening in our new Polytunnel

We would like to express a special thanks to Creggstone who have donated 1000 euro to our polytunnel. It will go to great use!!

Carrying on a Proud Tradition

Creagh National School has a proud tradition of supporting local charities and the local community. Retired principal, Mr Noel Lohan, has championed the school annual Christmas Food Appeal in association with the Ballinalsoe Lion's Club for many years. This year, Miss Laura Gallagher has taken over the  mantle of co-ordinating the appeal. We hope that our school community will show its usual generosity in supporting this great cause.
