​Mr Lohan has filled many different roles in the school throughout his career. From 4th class teacher to acting principal; from Green School co-ordinator to landscape gardener; from advisor to collaborator; from hurling coach to turf saving guru,  Mr Lohan has earned the respect, loyalty and esteem of all those children and adults who crossed his path.
In honour of his contributions to the recycling and environmental focus in the school, Gairdín Uí Nollaig was dedicated to Mr Lohan in a simple, socially distanced outdoor event. Teacher Caroline Gallagher unveiled the specially commissioned recycled furniture (created, designed and assembled by school caretaker Eddie Brady), ornamental apple trees and recently planted backdrop that had been so secretly put together by the gardening team.  The cheers from children and staff alike, as Mr Lohan cut the ribbon to this wonderful new outdoor asset for the whole school community, resounded throughout the neighbourhood.
In the afternoon family, friends and colleagues past and present assembled virtually to share memories and add their thanks and congratulations to Mr Lohan on an unparalleled teaching career. Principals Tony Broderick and Stephanie Keating, Chairperson of the BOM, Frank Gallagher and Chairperson of the Parents Association, Caroline Tracy were the first to contribute. Retired members of staff who dialled in and added their inputs included Agnes Hurley, Johnny Johnston, Lillah Broderick and Mary Barrett. Mr Lohan's wife Geraldine, two sons, Ian and Bryan, his brother Seamus and sisters, Áine and Claire, were also able to join us on the day.  Regina Power presented Mr. Lohan with a travel voucher on behalf of the staff past and present.  It was an emotional but thoroughly enjoyable trip through Mr Lohan's time in the school. A photographic tribute compiled by Emily Lohan and Shane Dolan illustrated the many facets of Mr Lohan's work throughout the decades and the final, most appropriate tribute was in the form of a moving blessing from Board member Fr. John Garvey. 
All throughout the lead up to his last day, Mr Lohan had emphasised his desire for a simple exit. His only requests were that his son's and wife could be included in some way and that he would get the opportunity to say goodbye to the children. Between 1:30pm and 3:00pm he made his way to the 16 classrooms, passing out goody bags to each and every child in the school. This final act of generosity typifies the priorities of this modest and popular leader. Children first at all times, kindness at every turn.
